I think everybody should work in an office for at least a year.
I did this for five and then I quit after noticing that it wasn't a lifestyle that would make me happy in the long term.
Sounds like I am contradicting myself, right? But wait... Was it useless? Hell no! It was a great learning experience.
- You can meet many types of people and notice how they are different when money is involved.
- You can learn the difference in between a leader and a boss.
- You can learn how to communicate better in the phone and with e-mails.
- You can learn how to say no and taste the consequences of too much yes.
- You can practice how to sell a very unique product. You!
You might think that being in a big company might not be for you. I thought about it many times and constantly saw my work as a big failure in life.
It all changed when I decided to stop being pessimistic. At that moment, that was my only way to make money and fund my tuition in LA.
Why don't try to ignore the bad things and absorb the good ones?
It was just a simple mindset change for me to start to see all of that just like a very huge reality show where I was the protagonist.
I was being dettached and seeing things from above, paying attention not only in my surroundings, but in the way I was reacting to it.
Everything that was happening around me was teaching me something that I could apply not only in the music business but in my entire life.
Later, when I decided to leave, it wasn't a big deal. I was grateful for what I have learned and the people I have met.
I don't disagree with the office life, but not everybody is suitable for it. Just be aware about your true calling and don't stay doing this forever. Learn and quit.
The more you stay there the harder it is to leave.
